Members of the business community in the Ruapehu District have been invited to meet next Thursday 31st January to establish a business association for the region.
The District Mayor, Don Cameron was instrumental in calling a meeting in 2018 to canvas interest from the business community and Michael Barnett, CEO of the Auckland Business Chamber was invited to work with the businesses and develop a proposal.
Barnett believes every business community needs a voice so it can have the best platform off which it can operate. The issues for business can vary; from the cost of local government, their services and rates to infrastructure, skills, tourism, waste management and issues associated with central government, he said.
Having a voice for business in other regions had led to successful Provincial Growth Fund applications, better infrastructure and improved economic development and employment opportunities Barnett said.
The meeting next Thursday will take place in the Tongariro Room at The Chateau Tongariro Hotel from 10am-12pm.
