Warehouse Stationery
Warehouse Stationery became interested in the New Kiwis Work Experience Programme
after reading about the programme in a previous issue of b-Innovative.
'We recognise that there is a large range of Asian and Indian business owners
in Auckland, so from a business point of view it makes sense to have staff who
can effectively interact with those businesses,' says Warehouse Stationery's
B2B Telesales Manager Karyn Johnston.
Warehouse Stationery offered eight weeks work experience within their business-to-business
division to two New Kiwis, Madison Annie Ng and Anand Mandava.
'Although they've only been with us a short while, their contribution has
already been excellent. They provide great new ideas and a different perspective.
They're just lovely people, they fit in well, and they're very, very clever.'
'We're most impressed,' says Karyn Johnston.
Paulmen Seals Ltd
Paulmen Seals Ltd manufacture and recondition mechanical seals for pumps and
rotating shaft equipment. They export 30-40% of their products, so the decision
to take on two New Kiwis has obvious benefits.
They found out about the programme through a mailing sent to Chamber members
and admit at first they were a bit dubious: 'Often these sorts of programmes
aren't all they seem, and one would normally expect a litany of red tape and
elongated application forms,' says Paulmen's Managing Director Chris Bayne.
'So we were delighted at how simple the whole process was. We experienced
a highly professional approach by the New Kiwi staff for what appears at last
to be a genuine (New Kiwi) recruitment programme, that realistically match today's
business needs,' says Chris.
Paulmen's Seals took on Tilak Carthelis and Lav Gopani and found: 'Their CV's
were detailed and very accurate, they have a lot to contribute through their
skills and experience. They fit in, they're proactive, and very enthusiastic.
'If you're prepared to provide them with a flexible environment, and possibly
training, you will definitely experience the mutual benefits.'
'Thanks and well done New Kiwi Initiative,' says Chris.
